Vendor Spotlight – Brasspenny Photography

When a client books with Vision in White, one of the first vendors we start to match them with is their photographer. A photographer can really set the tone for your wedding day. They can bring a sense of calm, an air of confidence, and a hint of party. This girl has got all three! Meet Rachel with Brasspenny Photography! She’s an amazing boss babe who never fails to put her clients at ease and deliver STUNNING photos! Don’t believe me? Start scrolling and get to know her!

What was your dream job growing up?

I was a band kid who loved books with a passion, so when I was in high school I was always dreaming of becoming a band teacher or a librarian!

What does a typical wedding day look like for you?

A typical wedding day begins the day before, for me. It starts by just getting in the zone, prepping my gear, making sure I have my backup camera, lenses, formatted my memory cards and have everything ready to go. I usually study  little mood boards I make up as well (bride’s style, vision boards of what the planners or stylists may have sent, check out the venue’s insta for whats currently happening there) to get kinda hyped up and focused! I also study my bride’s intake form that I sent to her that includes tons of info about her wedding day, whats special to her, moments they have planned, fam shot list, how they met etc.

How long have you been in business? Why did you decide to start a business?

For about a decade, give or take.

It honestly never started out as a plan to start a business. I’m showing my age here, but when I started out Instagram had barely been an app for a hot minute. I had no idea where I was going with photography, it was just a fun hobby. Coincidentally, that hobby seemed to thrive – even as a kid, or early college, my friends always loved the photos I took of them (for their myspace profile pics haha!). Once I invested in a camera and switched my major to photography, I *still* had no clue I’d be doing this full time on my own one day – that seemed like a dream too good to be true. But then it just kept picking up speed, and I realized my dream job had kind of materialized in real life. It’s true what they say though – an entrepreneur will gladly work 80 hours a week to avoid working 40 hours a week for someone else. I have to say that is one of the biggest perks – I don’t mind hard work, and I love being able to make my own way in this world.

What is your favorite part of a wedding day/event day?

Ooooohhh!! There’s a few:
1. Time shooting the bride alone usually during/ right after she puts her gown on.
2. Time with the couple during golden hour!
3. The reception – honestly, it’s always so fun to see the bride and groom once the reception really gets underway. You can just SEE how relaxed they are and just soaking in all the fun.

What would be your dream event to photograph?

I’d give away one of my kids to shoot weddings in Tuscany, Malibu, Alys Beach, and Greece!! Blogs I stalk from weddings in all of those locations are just insane. (Just kidding about giving away my children though).

What is your favorite location in Nashville to photograph?

Oh gosh, too many to name. The Cordelle is a longtime favorite of mine, 14TENN is beautiful, Clementine, Cedarwood, Belle Meade.. all so wonderful!! Scarritt Bennett and Church of the Assumption are my two favorite Nashville churches!!

Who would be your dream celebrity or your dream location to photograph?

In Nashville, I still haven’t shot a wedding at Cheekwood, and I would love to do that!

And as far as celebs – dream world, would love to shoot Jennifer Lawrence’s wedding cause I bet that would be SOOOO fun and hilarious (but she’s already married, so ya know).

If you could go anywhere tomorrow, where would you go?

Back to Portugal and Iceland. Two of my favorites. I’ve been fortunate to go to Iceland a couple times now for wedding work, and it has a piece of my heart. It’s small enough I feel like I can drive through half of it without a map now! Seriously, miss travel – had several amazing weddings planned for out of the state / country this year including one in Peru which was going to be so, so precious. Can’t wait until travel gets back to normal!
