We love interviewing reputable vendors in order to introduce their businesses and who they are as people. This week, we are spotlighting Melanie Grady Photography! Keep reading to find out more about her.
What was your dream job growing up?
I wanted to become a marine biologist or a photographer for National Geographic.
What does a typical wedding day look like for you?
A lot of wonderful moments and people all coming together to celebrate love and family. It’s very busy, but I love the constant flow from one part to the next.
How long have you been in business? Why did you decide to start a business?
I have been photographing weddings now for 7 years! When I started researching wedding photographers for my own wedding (back in 2010), I had a ‘light bulb moment’ and knew immediately that I was going to be starting a wedding photography business. I was not happy working in a cubicle in a high-rise in corporate America and photography had been my passion since I was a little girl. I always wanted to own my own business (I have a degree in business management), so I knew that combining my passion with my entrepreneur mentality would be the perfect fit.
What is your favorite part of a wedding day/event day?
I have a lot of favorite moments – most of them are the emotional tear-jerking moments. I love all ‘first looks’ and when the bride is walking down the aisle and there are a tearful groom and father-of-the-bride both trying to hold it together. I love the professional (usually the most genuinely exciting moment of the day), and I love the first dance/parent dances. Tears come a lot behind my camera because I am super sensitive to others’ emotions and I’m a parent who thinks about her own family in these moments some day.
What would be your dream event to photograph?
Probably a small intimate wedding in Europe somewhere amongst beautiful gardens, rolling fields of flowers in bloom, and the perfect sunset backdrop.
What is your favorite location in Nashville for photography?
I have a few favorite wedding venues! Riverwood Mansion, East Ivy Mansion, The Cordelle, and Cj’s Off The Square are all dream worthy Nashville venues.
Who would be your dream celebrity or your dream location to photograph?
I really don’t fantasize about celebrity weddings… but as I mentioned before, the dream location would probably be in Europe amongst beautiful gardens or on the coast.
If you could go anywhere tomorrow, where would you go?
France. Who wants to come with me????
