Cakes are an essential piece in one’s wedding day. It is important that the cake appears beautiful on the outside but also delicious on the inside. This is Wolfe Gourmet Cake’s main goal for all of their cakes. All of our brides would agree that this is something that they stay true to! That is why we are featuring Wolfe Gourmet Cakes today in our Vendor Spotlight.
For our Vendor Spotlights, we ask a couple questions about wedding days and the planning process to help brides get to know their vendors both professionally and personally. Here is some of what Nicole Wolfe shared with us!
1. What was your dream job growing up?
Growing up I wanted to be on Saturday Night Live. I did theater growing up, but ended up not pursuing it. I also always thought I would end up in hotel management, but never did I think that I would have my own business.
2. What does a typical wedding day look like for you?
It is a week long process. We try to get all of the baking done beforehand so that it is already done by the day of the event/wedding. Our goal is to have all of the birthday cakes pick up from 7-8 am, and then we try to leave by 10 am to deliver the wedding cakes. Typically we have to travel pretty far to places like Lebanon. Because of the traveling distance, I always bring a tool box in case of any accidents.
3. How did you get into the cake business?
I never really wanted to own my own business. I always wanted to work for someone else, because I knew how much stress came with owning your own business. Then, I was offered a position to do cakes. I had the opportunity to take a year to decide, and thought that I would just be part-time for a while. After three months I no longer could do part-time, because of how busy it was. I then ended up where I am now with my own business.
4. How long have you been in the business?
I have had my own business for 6 1/2 years (7 in July). I have been baking and decorating, though, for about 12 years.
5. What is your favorite part of a wedding day/event day?
My favorite part is getting everything set up and seeing people’s reactions. That always makes all of the hard work worth it. Though it may not seem like it, this is a very physically demanding job, so making someone happy makes it worthwhile. I want to please my customers. I want my cakes to taste good on the inside and look good on the outside, because it is important for every cake to have both!
6. What is your favorite cake flavor?
It changes periodically. I typically lean more towards chocolate flavors, but right now my two favorites are a white chocolate pistachio chai and a white chocolate macadamia nut cake. I do not really like white chocolate by itself, but I love it paired with something else!
7. What would the most extravagant cake that you could dream up look like?
One year I did one that was decorated with Asian beads, and I hand painted everything on it. It was one of the most extravagant cakes I have ever done, and I loved it! I love using real flowers on wedding cakes and intricate detailing. Another one of my favorites was an all black wedding cake decorated with champagne and pink flowers. I like cakes that do not follow the typical trends that everyone else is following. It makes them unique.
8. Who would be your dream celebrity to create a cake for?
I am not really a star-struck person, but I would choose either Dolly Parton or Stephen King! Even though they are two very different types of celebrities, that is who I would choose.
9. If you could go anywhere tomorrow, where would you go?
I would like to go to many places, but I would probably choose Greece. Another country I would love to visit is Asia. Both places are places I have never been. If I went to Asia, I would like to visit Cambodia or Vietnam. A vacation is much needed soon!
