Vendor Spotlight – Boro Town Cakes

There are many important decisions that have to be made for your wedding day to be perfect. One of those decisions is choosing the wedding cake. For our vendor spotlight, we have chosen to interview Lisa, the owner of Boro Town Cakes and ask her some fun questions about how she got into the cake industry. You will not be disappointed in choosing to work with her for your wedding cake!

What was your dream job growing up?

I actually wanted to be a cardiologist for a long time.

What does a typical wedding day look like for you?

Stressful. LOL No, but really, It starts with completing the wedding cake. Boxing the cake, then most times, transporting the cake to the wedding venue. Then at the wedding venue, setting up the cake and completing the decorations. Completing the decorations usually means adding flowers and the cake topper. Then as quietly as possible leaving the venue for the couple and their guests to enjoy the joyful event.

How did you get into the cake business?

I was always the person to bake and bring a dessert to family and friend’s events/dinner. I decided to start offering more specialized cakes for sale for special occasions and watched every cake show and videos available.

How long have you been in business?

I have been in business for seven years. Why did you decide to start a business? I was finding that I was doing something for free that I could receive payment for. Once I heard a job is not a job if it is something that I would do for free.

What is your favorite part of a wedding day/event day?

My most favorite part of the wedding day is the couple’s response to their cake when first they see it.

What is your favorite cake flavor?

Almond cake with almond buttercream icing..hands down!

What would the most extravagant cake that you could dream up look like?

The most extravagant cake I can dream up is a five-tiered cake with hexagon bottom tier, a square tier on top of the hexagon tier, then a round tier, then another hexagon, and finally on top a small round tier. The entire cake would be a shimmery pearl all over. Sugar rhinestones on the hexagon tiers. On the round tiers, I would want delicate string lace and royal icing piping all over the tiers in white. On the square tier, I would want delicate, thin paper wafer feathers, that cover the entire tier.

Who would be your dream celebrity to create a cake for?

I would love to do a birthday cake for  Beyonce…oh wait that would be too much pressure and stress.  Betty White, or Michelle Obama.

If you could go anywhere tomorrow, where would you go?

would love to travel to Marrakesh, Morocco or Egypt.
