Vendor Spotlight – Gavin Nutt

What was your dream job growing up?

When I was growing up, my dream job was to be an archaeologist. Not long after that I wanted to be an architect but I realized fairly quickly how much math was going to be involved and gave up on that. Photography was always an interest growing up though. By middle school I had fallen in love with taking pictures. My parents gave my a hand-me-down film camera from my grandma and I took pictures of everything after that. We loved to travel growing up and I had a blast capturing the things we saw. When we weren’t traveling I was looking in magazines and taking pictures of scenery, printing them out, and pretending I took the photographs.

What does a typical wedding day look like for you?

I generally start every wedding by meeting up with the bride and her bridesmaids for getting ready photos, after that I just follow the action from place to place.

How long have you been in business? Why did you decide to start a business?

I’ve been in the wedding business for six years. Photography has always been a passion of mine. Having the ability to do what I love for a living is something I definitely appreciate.

What is your favorite part of a wedding day/event day?

I think my favorite part of the wedding day would have to be the father/daughter dance. I’ve found myself fighting back tears many times during those dances over the years. There’s something very special about that moment that always gets to me. A close second would be the partying!

What would be your dream event to photograph?

Being a photographer or videographer for some of my favorite bands at one of their concerts would be an amazing experience.

What is your favorite location in Nashville to photograph?

My favorite location is actually just outside of Nashville. Cedars of Lebanon wins for me. If I could pick a time of year as well it would be Fall. There’s such a variety of locations and backdrops there, it really is a dream spot for photos. The forest in the fall makes for some amazing pictures, not to mention plenty of fields, a big walking bridge with trails and a cave that’s great for backdrops.

Who would be your dream celebrity  to photograph?

Ben Stiller as Derek Zoolander.

If you could go anywhere tomorrow, where would you go?

Definitely New Zealand for me. I’ve always been blown away by the scenery. It’s been a bucket list destination for a long time.
