What was your dream job growing up?
I can honestly say I didn’t really have a “dream job” as a kid. I did always want to travel though. I wanted to see the world. Above my bed I had a giant map of the globe with pins in everywhere I wanted to visit. It was littered with pins. I’d say that that desire helped point me into the direction of photography. I’d look at all the beautiful images of foreign places, wishing I had taken them. I knew I wanted to study abroad in college, which I did twice, and I thought photography would go hand in hand with that. So I spent much of college in the dark room falling in love with creating images, looking forward to the images I’d create of my travels.

What does a typical wedding day look like for you?
My job is awesome. I get to be around people who are in love all day! It is hard work though. I offer a lot of coverage to my couples because I believe that the “getting ready” moments at the start of the day and the “send off” images at the end are equally important. So, I am there for everything — everyone getting ready, first look and couple photos, the bridal party, family formals, the ceremony, the reception; I’m there to tell the story from start to finish.
Why did you decide to start a business?
I got to a point that I knew I could maintain my life doing what I love. It was a scary leap, but I knew I was ready. I think so many people think they can start a business at the drop of a hat, but you can’t create one that provides for you overnight. It takes years, and I’ve learned more than I ever thought I would about the backbone of being a business owner. I don’t regret all the hard work for a second.
How long have you been in business?
I’ve been photographing weddings ever since I graduated college in 2011. A little bit at a time I just kept building my business. I blogged everything, even if it was just going to lunch down the street. I kept practicing while I still maintained a part-time job. Owning a business takes time, and I slowly built mine while working a second job. Eventually I was able to go full-time and have been for over two years now.
What is your favorite part of a wedding day/event day?
My favorite part of the day is when I get to be alone with the couple. They get to pause for a few moments, separate themselves from everyone involved in the day, and they can focus on the other person. It’s extremely intimate, and I get to be present for it.
What would be your dream event to photograph?
An elopement on a lake in the mountains! Somewhere like Banff!
What is your favorite location in Nashville to photograph?
The back roads…places that don’t have an exact address. So a little more on the outskirts of Nashville I’d say!
Who would be your dream celebrity or you dream location to photograph?
Dream location would be Banff, Thailand, New Zealand, Alaska, I mean, I could list so many places.
If you could go anywhere tomorrow, where would you go?
Oh gosh, I’ve been having a strong pull to Thailand recently!
